City to chart brownfield sitesJonathan Bilyk Ottawa Times (IL) February 9, 2006 Ottawa officials have launched a process they hope ultimately will allow businesses to breathe new life into long abandoned industrial sites in the city. Tuesday, the Ottawa City Council placed on file for public review an agreement with Vanderwalle and Associates, an environmental consulting firm based in Madison, Wis., to identify and map sites throughout the city that could be contaminated with industrial pollution and in need of cleanup. "We have a lot of potential to redevelop some areas within the city," said City Engineer Dave Noble. "But many developers, if they discover a site is or may be contaminated, turn and run for fear that they will be stuck with liability to clean it up." ...
