Brownfield plan draws backersBy Robin Palmer Barre Montpelier Times Argus (VT) February 15, 2006 RANDOLPH - Reclaiming a brownfield site for affordable housing in downtown Randolph is apparently such an attractive public policy that it attracted everyone from the head of the Environmental Protection Agency in Boston to the governor and much of his administration to Randolph on Tuesday. The Randolph Area Community Development Corp. is proposing 20 to 30 townhouse style residences on 4.4 acres of vacant industrial land just outside of the community's designated downtown. Brownfields are sites that may have industrial contamination. The property was last part of the Randolph Division of Ethan Allen and, noted Harriet Chase of the Randolph Historical Society, had been used for furniture making since 1866 when Salisbury Furniture began under Franklin Salisbury, his brother and son.
