Reports detail pollution on Emerson property Neighborhood sewer lines also raise toxin concerns By JENNIE DALEY Ithaca Journal (NY) February 18, 2006 ITHACA - High levels of toxins are present at several sites on the Emerson property, according to new documents on file at the Tompkins County Public Library. Other records lay out the newest plans for testing along Turner Place, the site of two sewer lines from the Emerson factory that are suspected as possible sources of the contaminants. "Gosh, who's surprised?" said Timothy Weber, a South Hill resident. "It does make me kind of wonder why they waited so long." Eight hot spots on site Eight spots were identified in Emerson buildings where levels of trichloroethylene and perchloroethene, better known as TCE and perc, respectively, were above state limits. The highest numbers were sub slab readings in the northeast portion of the plant's basement. There, TCE registered at 3,800 micrograms per cubic meter; while, about 1,000 feet away, sub-slab readings of perc were at 1,400 micrograms per cubic meter. The state limit for remediation of TCE in the sub slab is 100 micrograms per cubic meter. ...
