Rell gives $600,000 for mill redevelopment Money would go to removing asbestos, lead from Gilbert and Bennett Wire site By Mark Langlois DANBURY NEWS-TIMES (CT) February 18, 2006 The state is breathing life into the proposed redevelopment of the Gilbert and Bennett Wire mill site. Gov. M. Jodi Rell awarded a $600,000 small cities community development block grant to the town of Redding and Georgetown Land Development Co. to remove asbestos, lead and other hazardous materials left at the abandoned mill. Redding First Selectman Natalie Ketchum said the town, which isn't considered a small city by anyone's standards, meets the state's criteria for the grant because it involves redevelopment of a brownfield - a contaminated site that must be cleaned up before anyone can use it. ...
