3 city houses need venting to block TCE Ashland Chemical to test 10 more properties on Smith, Travis avenues By Tom Wilber Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin (NY) February 23, 2006 BINGHAMTON - Three homes on Smith Avenue have been added to a long and growing list of Southern Tier properties requiring ventilation systems to block gases from underground pollution. The properties, on the east side of Smith Avenue, are tainted by fumes from trichloroethylene (TCE) linked to Ashland Chemical, a nearby hazardous-waste-warehousing business on Broad Street. Three other homes tested last summer in the area didn't qualify for the systems, but air inside those homes will be continue to be monitored, Ashland spokesman James Vitak said. ...
