STREATOR: City seeks IEPA's help with Knoedler brownfieldCRAIG WIECZORKIEWICZ Ottawa Times (IL) June 24, 2006 STREATOR -- The city is requesting financial aid from the state to fully evaluate the environmental conditions at one of its brownfield sites. The former Knoedler Manufacturing facility site on Iowa Avenue just south of the Broadway Street viaduct, is contaminated primarily by solvents used in the metal cleaning , said former public works director Ralph Hermann, who now serves as a consultant to the city. A 300-gallon underground storage tank that previously stored kerosene was removed in 2004, but no contamination was found immediately surrounding the storage tank. Ten to 15 percent of the site appears to be tainted from one or two other tanks believed to have been removed before Streator took control of the property, Hermann said. ...
