Tainted site will be safe for school, experts say PUBLIC DIVIDED ON BOARD'S PLAN
Despite the controversy, the Upper Freehold Regional Board of Education is moving ahead with a plan to contain pesticide-contaminated soil on property on Ellisdale Road and then build a middle school there. At a board meeting Wednesday, health and environmental professionals testifying for the board said the plan is safe. The idea is to move soil contaminated with agricultural pesticides to one place on the 46-acre Ellisdale Road site, cap it with clean soil and then pave it over for a parking lot at an estimated cost of $950,000. "As long as the cap remains, there is no exposure," said township Health Officer Margaret B. Jahn. Dozens of residents, among about 200 who attended the board meeting, testified for and against the plan. ...
