Judge upholds $85 million projectBy Jeremy Harrell and Dawn Wotapka Hardesty Long Island Business News (Ronkonkoma, NY) July 7, 2006 ROCKVILLE CENTRE – After years of delays and fighting, developer Chase Partners has been given clearance to build an $85 million luxury apartment building on the former Darby Drug site in Rockville Centre. Nassau County Supreme Court Judge Bruce D. Alpert last month nullified a decision by the village’s zoning board to deny the Chase project, a 349-unit rental complex located a block from the Long Island Rail Road station. In his June 26 decision, Alpert said the project, dubbed Signature Place, met the village’s zoning code and chided village officials for intentionally delaying the project in order to change code requirements. The judge also ordered the village to issue a building permit for the 420,000-square-foot project, without modification, as soon as Chase Partners completes an estimated $10 million cleanup of the brownfield site. ...
