Contamination at Hamilton Avenue site is Hopewell topicBy Aleen Crispino Hopewell Valley News (NJ) July 20, 2006 HOPEWELL BOROUGH PLANNING UPDATE Hopewell Borough Planning Board heard an informal presentation July 5 of a plan by an environmental engineering firm to pump out and treat contaminated groundwater at the former Rockwell Manufacturing/Kooltronic site on Hamilton Avenue. John Persico, an associate at Blasland, Bouck and Lee (BBL) of Cranbury, said his firm was hired by Rockwell Automation, now of Milwaukee, Wis., which operated the site as Rockwell Manufacturing Co. from the early 1900s to 1975. The Rockwell/Kooltronic property on Hamilton Ave. is bordered on the north by Somerset Street and on the south by Lafayette Street. The main building at 57 Hamilton Ave. has been converted to office space and is currently occupied by several businesses. ... NJDEP tests in 2000 found that wells in the 16-home King's Path development, just outside the borough in Hopewell Township, contained levels of TCE and tetrachloroethylene – also known as perchloroethylene or PCE, another volatile organic compound used to degrease metals – exceeding the agency's New Jersey Drinking Water Standards. ...
