Gannett printing facility revitalizes industrial siteBy Jeff Platsky Ithaca Journal (NY) July 29, 2006 JOHNSON CITY - Ithaca, Binghamton and Elmira community and business leaders gathered Thursday evening to celebrate the reclamation and redevelopment of an industrial site that was once thought to be hopelessly tainted. A $50 million printing press built by Gannett Co. has resurrected the site that formerly hosted an abandoned and dilapidated Endicott Johnson Ranger Paracord plant. It's a project that's being touted as a prime example of how a successful private and public partnership can recover previously used industrial sites, referred to as brownfields, that have long been avoided by developers. "We took an old brownfield site and did what you're supposed to do," said state Sen. Thomas W. Libous, R-Binghamton. "Everyone came together." Now that the Central New York Production Facility in Johnson City is in full operation printing three Gannett newspapers, about 250 people gathered outside the five-story printing press to toast the accomplishment. ...
