New York state. - LS] Tainted water project begins in Hopewell By Aleen Crispino Hopewell Valley News (NJ) August 10, 2006 An environmental engineering firm hired to clean up groundwater contamination at the former Rockwell/Kooltronic site on Hamilton Avenue has begun monitoring the air quality in Lafayette and Somerset street residences, looking for possible unsafe levels of chemicals released during the process of digging wells, said Councilman David Mackie at the Hopewell Borough Council meeting Monday. Blasland, Bouck and Lee (BBL) of Cranbury was hired by Rockwell Automation of Milwaukee, Wis., to conduct the remediation effort. It has begun digging wells as the first step in what will be an ongoing project to pump out and treat "two groundwater contaminant plumes" at the site, said Mr. Mackie, responding to concerns voiced at the Monday meeting by a neighborhood resident. The resident, who declined to give her name or address, said, "They're going to put up a filtration plant next to my house." She said she had placed her house on the market and that three buyers who were previously interested dropped out when she disclosed the air quality problems. ...
