Home News Tribune New Brunswick, NJ 2/2/07 Sayreville has been presented with an enormous opportunity to reclaim an old industrial site and line its coffers with fresh capital with the announcement on Wednesday that Hercules Inc. plans to redevelop a 400-acre tract of land it owns off South Minisink Avenue. Given that virgin land is ever so rare, and where it does still exist in New Jersey it is usually worth protecting as open space, brownfields properties like the Hercules tract are very often the best and only chance for municipalities to meet their most pressing needs, primary among them the demand for commercial ratables, retail and business services, and residential housing. Going forward, it is essential that the borough make the best use of this chance in close partnership with the company. Why is that a concern? Because public and private entities don't always see eye to eye on what constitutes smart redevelopment.
