[The soil gas readings reported in this article don't seem right. - LS] Toxin levels elevated in three homes REBECCA ROBINSON Bennington Banner (VT) March 2, 2007BENNINGTON - The results from the first round of soil and groundwater tests on and around the Energizer plant were made public on Thursday, and while the majority of samples were below risk levels, half of the six the residential properties tested had higher-than-acceptable levels of tetrachloroethene (PCE) and trichloroethene (TCE). Air sampling in some of the buildings is expected during the next step of the testing process. Jeff Schroeder, the plant manager, said that, after collecting approximately 30 different samples from Energizer's property and six residential properties immediately adjacent to the plant, "the majority of samples were at levels below groundwater and soil gas screening values that were established jointly with Environmental Resource Management and the state Department of Environmental Conservation." ...
