Appleton site cleanups earn 'badge of honor' DNR praises city's commitment to environmental efforts By Steve Wideman Appleton Post-Crescent (WI) March 27, 2007APPLETON - Nationally recognized success in Wisconsin to clean up contaminated industrial sites for redevelopment is a badge of honor for state Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Hassett. But Hassett said he was not aware until told Monday of the return of dozens of eagles to the Fox River, including roosting in trees bordering a former industrial site cleaned up as a result of a partnership between the city and state. Hassett and local officials gathered at Trolley Square off Olde Oneida Street to mark reclamation of a 2.7-acre site along the river previously contaminated with arsenic, lead and petroleum compounds. ...
