Incentives could be the tipping point; Council will debate brownfield
community improvement plan and redevelopment strategy
GREG FURMINGER Welland Tribune May 1, 2007Local News - It's going to make dollars and sense to invest in the redevelopment of Welland's abandoned commercial and industrial lands. If city council adopts the municipality's brownfield community improvement plan and redevelopment strategy tonight, there will be some financial incentives for those who tackle Welland's vacant and overgrown properties. "The incentives could be the tipping point for (redevelopment of) these properties," Mayor Damian Goulbourne says. They include:- that the city fund 50 per cent of the cost of an environmental site assessment plan or risk assessment, providing a maximum grant of $15,000 per study, for a maximum two studies and combined grant limit of $25,000; ...
