Subject: | [CPEO-BIF] National BF education program seeking local partners---engaging youth in brownfields redevelopment |
>From Dan Somerville (dsomervi@purdue.edu) Our Town Program Coordinator Our Town is an EPA sponsored K-12 education program which seeks to engage youth in community brownfield redevelopment. Participating youth learn through doing in science, technology, and economics, and they develop essential skills and understanding in civic participation, problem solving, and community involvement. Our Town is expanding to additional communities nationwide and is seeking local partners and organizations who work with area youth in schools (public, private, charter) or community-based organizations. Our Town can provide curricular activities that enable students to work with teachers, adult mentors, and local stakeholders in local brownfield identification, assessment, and reuse planning. Our Town can be implemented as a traditional classroom interdisciplinary curricular program, or as an after school or community service activity. Program staff can also provide a limited number of communities with on-site training to help pilot and implement the program. If you are interested and want additional information about Our Town, contact the Program Coordinator.
