Tests show air safe for students at new school By PAUL BRUBAKER HERALD NEWS (NJ) August 25, 2007GARFIELD - State and school district officials are relying on a private firm's test data to conclude the air that inside the new Garfield Middle School is safe for students to breathe, despite the presence of two dangerous chemicals on the property. Neil Rivers of Langan Engineering and Environmental Services of Elmwood Park, which was retained by the state Schools Development Authority, said Friday that since 2005 environmental testing and cleanup have been ongoing at the 3-acre property on 175 Lanza Ave. Most of the recent environmental and remediation efforts in conducting tests and submitting findings to the state Department of Environmental Protection for the property have been coordinated by Rivers. ...
