Work begins on city's new bike and skate park By ROY CHURCH Wabash Plain Dealer (IN) August 30, 2007Work began Monday, Aug. 27, on the John Drook Bike & Skate Park on South Carroll Street. Dump trucks from CAT Excavating and the Wabash Street Department began hauling in dirt from REMC and Metal Source to raise the elevation at the site of the former Mafcote building. REMC, located in the Wabash North Industrial Park, donated dirt left over from construction of a retention pond and Metal Source, located off South Wabash Street, donated fill from the construction of its new facility. Once the dirt is on site, CAT employees have been relocating it to specifications laid down by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, according to Todd Titus, Wabash Park Department superintendent. The park is being built on a former Brownfield site and the entire area has to be capped (encased) to prevent the possibility of any leftover contaminants seeping up through the soil. ...
