Subject: | [CPEO-BIF] Regina (Canada) vacant lot infill development plans |
City looking at empty lots by Veronica Rhodes The Leader-Post September 05, 2007 The City of Regina is taking stock of empty lots for possible future infill development. A motion passed at a city council meeting last month calls for an inventory to be taken of empty land that could be utilized for the development and facilitation of infill housing. Coun. Terry Hincks, who put forward the motion, said city council is committed to not having the urban sprawl seen in other major cities such as Calgary. Focusing on compact, cost-effective development is important, he said, adding that could be done by building on lands that already have infrastructure in place. ...There are plenty of sites that could see such infill development, such as an old bus turnaround at Dewdney Avenue and Horace Street that is now overgrown, Hincks explained. Other possibilities could include old school sites where the schools have long since closed. Such development could help inner-city schools remain viable.
