Information Technology High School air gets passing grade BY JOHN LAUINGER NEW YORK DAILY NEWS October 4, 2007City officials say a new round of testing proves the air quality at Long Island City's Information Technology High School is safe, but an environmental expert said the results for one toxic compound are borderline. The new test was conducted on Sept. 22 - two days after parents and two City Council members questioned the validity of previous tests performed at the school, which occupies a former metal-plating warehouse contaminated with lead and petrochemicals. Surprisingly, the Sept. 22 test results were not formally released by the Education Department. Instead, a union posted them yesterday in an anonymous memo on the school's Web site. The posting said the levels of volatile organic compounds detected inside the school are "consistent with background levels measured in NY State and throughout the United States." ...
