Water park option back on the table

CARLSBAD - The clock is ticking.

If the city of Carlsbad does not act quickly, it could lose a $775,000
federal grant that also comes with a $2 million guaranteed loan

The grant and associated loan has been on the city's books since
November of 2002 and must be drawn on by September of 2008, said Harry
Burgess, city administrator.

In 2002, local developers announced that they planned to build a water
park on the south side of the Cascades project on Park Drive. Since
private companies are not eligible for federal grants, the city of
Carlsbad became the recipient of the Housing and Urban Development
Brownfield Economic Development Grant that would have been made
available for the development of the water park.
