Riverfront park said to be done by end of 2008

Conceptual drawings released yesterday for the proposed Marina District 
on the Maumee River's eastern shore show a veritable urban wonderland - 
happy faces and outdoor performances included.

The drawings include an urban beach with sand art in the summer and snow 
sculptures in the winter; a checkerboard garden, an oval amphitheater, 
and a cherry blossom trail.

The new pedestrian-friendly "Riverfront Park at Toledo Marina District" 
is to take shape on a once heavily polluted site that remains home to 
Toledo Edison's large, decommissioned Acme Generating Station.

Todd Davies, Toledo's commissioner of development, said the Marina 
District's riverfront park will be a reality by the end of 2008.
