Major grant, loan money eyed for Belle Glade
Would include historic renovation

County commissioners have approved an application to the US Department 
of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for a $1.44 million grant, and 
with it a $2.5 million loan for an Avenue A revitalization project in 
Belle Glade.

Commissioners said the Avenue A Revitalization Project is a $7.2 million 
public-private partnership represented by 26 private business owners 
seeking to renovate 38 commercial properties along four city blocks on 
West Avenue A in downtown Belle Glade.

The grant application is to the Brownfields Economic Development 
Initiative (BEDI); the loan would be under HUD’s Section 108 program, 
said commissioners.
