EPA approves Sheraton loan

GARY -- A $735,000 federal brownfield loan, meant to fund the cleanup of 
the former Sheraton Hotel, has been approved by the Environmental 
Protection Agency.

The details of the loan agreement for the New Gary Development Group 
were still being prepared last week, but EPA project manager Jan Pels 
confirmed the approval.

Phillip Kupritz, the lead architect for the Illinois-based investment 
team, said the news means an environmental cleanup of the building can 
continue Monday.
