VESTAL -- More work to block vapors from underground pollution is needed
in a plaza on the Vestal Parkway occupied by a fitness center and
several businesses, based on recent tests by state environmental officials.

Additionally, officials from the state Department of Environmental
Conservation are seeking permission to collect samples by March 31 from
five more properties to the northwest, in the area of King and Birch
streets. The tests are needed to see whether indoor air is being tainted
by trichloroethylene (TCE) fumes coming from under the plaza at 1808
Vestal Parkway.

The site, which houses American Family Fitness, was converted from
Hidden Valley Electronics, which made electrical components from the
mid-1960s until 1995.
