NIAGARA FALLS: Ethanol company seeks state help By Dan Miner Niagara Gazette (NY) March 18, 2008 Northern Ethanol is hinging its $220 million hopes for a Niagara Falls facility on whether it's accepted into a state program which trades tax credits for evidence of environmental cleanup and redevelopment. "It's a very big key," said Natalie Horrell, director of corporate relations for the Toronto-based company. "We still hope to break ground in the first quarter of 2008, but much is contingent on a successful brownfield application." Northern Ethanol confirmed in December that it planned to buy a 47th Street parcel from Praxair, Inc. and turn it into an ethanol producing facility with more than 100 jobs. The sale agreement of that land is contingent on acceptance into the state Brownfield Cleanup Program, administered by the state Department of Environmental Conservation. Northern Ethanol has applied to that program and the DEC is currently reviewing the application, according to DEC spokesperson Megan Gollwitzer. ...
