Residential developers to get public funds By VICTOR SKINNER Traverse City Record Eagle (MI) March 21, 2008 LELAND -- Developers of the former Leelanau County government complex won approval for more than $1.5 million in public funds to demolish existing buildings and prepare the site for residential development. The county's Brownfield Redevelopment Authority will reimburse developers Varley-Kelly Properties LLC for $350,750 in demolition costs and asbestos abatement at the 2.4-acre complex in Leland that once housed the courthouse, sheriff's department and other county agencies. The demolition funding adds to a previously approved state Department of Environmental Quality loan for nearly $1.2 million to assess and clean up contamination at the site. ...
