Grant sought for land cleanup

VERNON - Environmental upgrades to the former Trumbull County nursing
home land in Brookfield are being planned so the abandoned property can
be developed.

Commissioners on Wednesday OK'd moving ahead with asking the state
Environmental Protection Agency for money to revitalize the brownfield
area along state Route 7. The money would be used to make the site fit
for other purposes. It also was once the location of a military radar

"This is 40 acres we’d like to get back into use," Commissioner Paul
Heltzel said.

Planning Commission Director Alan Knapp said there would need to be an
assessment of the property to determine what contamination exists and
how much. Then work could begin on removing the dirty land and material.
