Dexter and Maple site shifting DEVELOPMENT Ann Arbor News (MI) April 06, 2008 It looks like discount grocery chain Aldi has its sights set on Ann Arbor. The plan for Maple Shoppes submitted to the city last week proposes redevelopment of an old gas station and demolition of five existing buildings on a 2.6-acre site at the northeast corner of Dexter and Maple roads. The structures will be replaced with two retail buildings, including one for Aldi food market. A surface parking lot would provide spaces for 90 vehicles. The site comprises three parcels - and they're each zoned differently. Thus, the developers are asking for a uniform commercial rezoning, as well as permission to construct the buildings closer to the road than what normally would be allowed. A brownfield plan for the project is almost done and will be submitted to the Washtenaw County Brownfield Development Authority soon, according to the city. ...
