Subject: [CPEO-BIF] Maple Shoppes, Ann Arbor, Michigan
Dexter and Maple site shifting

Ann Arbor News (MI)
April 06, 2008

It looks like discount grocery chain Aldi has its sights set on Ann Arbor.

The plan for Maple Shoppes submitted to the city last week proposes
redevelopment of an old gas station and demolition of five existing
buildings on a 2.6-acre site at the northeast corner of Dexter and Maple
roads. The structures will be replaced with two retail buildings,
including one for Aldi food market. A surface parking lot would provide
spaces for 90 vehicles.

The site comprises three parcels - and they're each zoned differently.
Thus, the developers are asking for a uniform commercial rezoning, as
well as permission to construct the buildings closer to the road than
what normally would be allowed.

A brownfield plan for the project is almost done and will be submitted
to the Washtenaw County Brownfield Development Authority soon, according
to the city.
