State plans public water for polluted homes
Proposal would extend service in East Rockhill.

Nearly five dozen East Rockhill Township homes would be connected to public water service as part of the state's plan to address decades-long water contamination caused by a probable cancer-causing chemical.

The state Department of Environmental Protection has proposed an estimated $440,000 public water line extension to properties near 1803 N. Fifth St., site of a former metal machining and fabrication company blamed in the 1980s for illegally discharging trichloroethylene, or TCE, into groundwater at its property.

The DEP is accepting written comments on the proposal through October and has scheduled a Sept. 15 public hearing to field opinions from residents.
