July 25, 2008

The Middlesex County freeholders last night took the first steps to authorize a $15 million bond sale to cover the cleanup and restoration at Medwick Park in Carteret, where heavy metal contamination was found 18 months ago.

County Administrator John Pu lomena said the county's environmental consultants completed their investigation of the 83-acre park along the Raritan River and the county is ready to seek permits from the state Department of Environmental Protection to begin the remediation.

Carteret Mayor Dan Reiman said borough is anxious to have the project completed since it would provide new football, soccer and baseball fields.
