City suit seeks more than $5M in site cleanup Indianapolis Star July 29, 2008The city of Indianapolis is suing at least 15 insurance companies for more than $5 million that was spent to clean up the site of the former Ertel Manufacturing Co. on the Eastside. Ertel closed its doors in 2003, and the city excavated the area, razed structures and disposed of 55,000 tons of contaminated backfill and soil. Tax-increment financing was set for the area, meaning taxes collected through the land's redevelopment would go back to the site to help pay bonds that were needed to pay for the area's cleanup. ...
