Curtain rising on Toyota's York Township facility by Stefanie Murray The Ann Arbor News (MI) August 11, 2008The Toyota Technical Center quietly began moving more than 500 people and various pieces of equipment, computers and furniture into its nearly finished, $187 million engineering design and crash test buildings in York Township this past week. By early September, the long-awaited 530,000-square-foot, two-building complex - which has been under construction for two years - will be open and operational. A public grand opening is planned for October, said spokesman Bruce Brownlee. ...Part of the reason why Toyota's tax incentive package was so hefty was that the York Township site it chose - a former state-owned psychiatric hospital - was a brownfield, making the company eligible for brownfield tax credits. Toyota had to remove asbestos, tear down the old hospital and clean up the contaminated ground before beginning construction. ...
