Eau Gallie board changes stance on brownfield plan Officials hope designation will be economic aid BY SUSANNE CERVENKA FLORIDA TODAY August 18, 2008MELBOURNE -- The board of one of Melbourne's three redevelopment areas switched its position on the city's "brownfield" initiative, now backing the plan. The Eau Gallie redevelopment board unanimously voted to support the plan, dubbed the Melbourne Economic Enhancement District. The Eau Gallie board initially voted to exclude itself from the plan that would encompass 9.5 square miles of the city. Florida designates brownfields as areas affected by actual or perceived contamination. But while the name offends some, the brownfield designation can be a lucrative economic tool. ...
