Aldermen take step toward development of North Olean land By John T. Eberth Olean Times Herald (NY) August 21, 2008OLEAN - Nearly 500 acres of former industrial land in North Olean and the town of Olean along Interstate 86 are one step closer to being developed.
Common Council members have agreed to apply for a Step 2 Nomination Phase Study for Olean's Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) program.
If Olean is successful, the city will receive a grant for around $300,000 to develop a plan to bring new businesses to the land.
Olean is one of only six communities in the state that has completed the first phase of the BOA program.
In 2003 and 2004, former Mayor William Quinlan pushed Olean to join New York's BOA program to test the land for industrial contamination, cleanup any that was found, and make the area ready for redevelopment.
