Rail Yard To Become Waterfront Park WPTZ TV-5 News September 15, 2008PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The city of Plattsburgh is cleaning up a contaminated Canadian Pacific rail yard and turning it into a waterfront park. The site, at the end of Dock Street, is considered a Brownfield Contamination site and has tested high for contaminants, which allowed the city to get grants from the state to clean it up. Contractors recently removed petroleum-soaked soil from the site and transported it to a secure area. "It really wasn't bad. We cleaned up the soil and brought it to a secure facility. In terms of cleanup, it was relatively minor," Plattsburgh City Engineer Kevin Farrington said. ...
