McDonald's move cleared By Autumn Lee and Dan Cherry Adrian Daily Telegram September 18, 2008 ADRIAN, Mich. -The Adrian City Commission on Monday approved a brownfield plan for constructing a new fast-food restaurant at the corner of U.S. 223 and M-52. The former Oriental Springs restaurant at 1080 E. U.S. 223 was once home to Bummie's restaurant, and the property owner, Baumgartner LLC, has been working with the McDonald's on South Main Street in Adrian to redevelop the 1.7-acre property into a modern fast-food facility. Operations will shift to the new building upon completion, which could come as soon as late November. Because of Adrian's status as a "core city," the definition of what constitutes a brownfield site has been expanded to include a property with a functionally obsolete structure, city administrator Dane Nelson said Wednesday. Core-city status is typically administered by the state to county seats, such as Adrian, based on demographics. ...
