Douglas revisits condo plan

A long-discussed plan to build condominiums on one of Michigan's oldest golf courses will be subject of discussion at the next Douglas city council meeting Nov. 10 and possible approval after a public hearing one week later.

Paul Wicks, owner of West Shore Golf Course at 14 Ferry St., first sought site plan approval in summer 2006 to convert the 92-acre course, built in 1916, from 18 to nine holes, adding 142 single-family and multi-unit homes, tennis courts, pedestrian walkways, a clubhouse and pool among them.

Among those concerns were roads, parking, setbacks and that part of the land sits on a plume of groundwater contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE), known to exist from the former Case manufacturing company.
