Mill site to be cleaned up; ethanol plant considered By Mike Pramik COLUMBUS DISPATCH (OH) October 13, 2008Corn could be in the future for a former Circleville paper mill that has been idle for a decade.
A group of Illinois investors has secured a state grant to help clean up and redevelop the former Smurfit-Stone mill near Rt. 23, and company officials said they are working with the city to develop a $120 million ethanol plant there.
The Green Investment Group will receive a $750,000 grant from the Clean Ohio Assistance Fund to remove asbestos from the vacant mill before it tears down the buildings. The plant was closed in 1998, throwing more than 100 people out of work, after the merger of Jefferson Smurfit and Stone Container.
