Victor Mill pollution in Greer goes before Spartanburg County Council today

GREER -- Pollution at Victor Mill, a partially-burned former textile mill in the heart of a city neighborhood, will be the topic of a report today that goes before Spartanburg County Council.

The textile mill, which dates from the 1890s and partially burned in 2006, sits in Spartanburg County surrounded by a Greer neighborhood near downtown.

An analysis by a company hired by the federal government to assess environmental hazards at the defunct mill site shows widespread contamination with byproducts of combustion such as coal, which must be addressed before the site can be redeveloped.
