Dairy awaits brownfield review By JOEL CUTHBERT Dunkirk Evening Observer (NY) November 9, 2008SILVER CREEK - A dairy building in the village from the early 1900s is coming down, either through brownfield re-development or the elements.
The old Seegert's Dairy building, located at 27/29 Buffalo Street in the village of Silver Creek, may not yet be designated as a brownfield site by the county, but local officials and residents already agree it's unsightly and a potential hazard to surrounding properties. In June, several Buffalo Street residents petitioned the village board to see that the dairy building is removed or cleaned up before debris damages their bordering properties.
Over $40,000 is currently owed in back taxes on the dairy building, but the county is yet to foreclose on the property.
