Douglas OKs 125-condo / golf course plan By Scott Sullivan Saugatuck Commercial Record (MI) February 4, 2009Douglas City Council Monday granted Paul Wicks site plan approval to convert his 18-hole West Shore Golf Course into a 125-condominium, nine-hole golf-residential complex. Members, assured by legal and planning counsels that Wicks’ proposal met city standards, voted 5-2 to OK the work. Wicks has sought since 2006, when the housing market was quite different, to build on his 92 acres at 14 Ferry St., north of Center Street. Units in what will be called West Shore Cottages will sell for an average $450,000, he said then. The golf course, built in 1916 and one of the oldest in the state, sits atop groundwater contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE), migrated there from the former Case manufacturing company off site. ...
