EPA wants to test for toxic chemical in Cayuga County WSYR-TV 9 News (Syracuse, NY) February 26, 2009Aurelius, Cayuga County - The Environmental Protection Agency has sent letters to the residents of 90 homes in Aurelius and Union Springs -- asking to drill holes in their basements. The EPA says it wants to test these homes for a substance called trichloroethylene. TCE is something some Aurelius residents have been dealing with for years now. Nearly a decade ago, folks living on Overbrook Drive saw a change in their creek. The water had turned brown, and fish were dead. It turns out someone had accidentally spilled liquid manure upstream. That incident prompted residents to have the water more closely inspected. What they found was TCE. ...
