Park site needs more soil testing Leelanau Enterprise (MI) April 19, 2009A closing on the sale of some 126 acres of land at the corner of Herman Road and Center Highway for use as a community park in Suttons Bay Township will occur no later than July 31 following action taken last week by the township board. At its regular monthly meeting on April 8, the board voted 4-0, with supervisor Rich Bahle absent, to extend a deadline for finalizing the real estate deal from the end of this month to the end of July. Township clerk Sandra VanHuystee chaired the meeting in Bahle’s absence. Township trustee Bill Drozdalski, who serves on the township's Parks and Recreation Committee, said a requirement for additional testing of soil samples on one corner of the Herman property had been imposed by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and was contributing to the delay. He said that earlier testing had revealed some soil contamination at the site of an historic automobile service station on the corner. ...
