[This site is in Canada, but it impacts water flowing through Southeast Alaska. - LS] Regulators order Tulsequah Chief cleanup ACID LEAKAGE: Company insolvent; plans to redevelop site have been shelved. The Associated Press Anchnorage Daily News (AK) May 29, 2009 JUNEAU -- A mining company has been ordered to clean up a former mine 45 miles northeast of Juneau that had been targeted for redevelopment. Redcorp Ventures Ltd. and a subsidiary, Redfern Resources, had planned to clean up acid leaking from the 1950s-era Tulsequah Chief mine as it redeveloped the site. The company is now insolvent and redevelopment has been halted but regulators in Canada have ordered Redcorp to clean up the acid. Canadian federal regulators since 1990 have known that water samples from the mine's drainage were toxic to fish. ...
