Plans to house school in building declared a brownfield scrapped David Andreatta Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (NY) July 30, 2009The Rochester School District has abandoned plans to open two schools this September in a former factory recently declared a brownfield, citing community concerns over contamination. The district had agreed last year to lease the property, at 690 St. Paul St., for 15 years for nearly $1 million annually, and had planned to house the new Dr. Walter Cooper Academy and School 14 there this fall. Nearly 1,000 students from School 33 were temporarily housed at the site last school year. Education officials said the two schools, which together are expected to enroll upward of 300 students, will open at the former School 37 building on Congress Avenue. ...
