Contamination is found on Quiogue land slated for subdivision By Jessica DiNapoli Southampton Press (NY) August 18, 2009The discovery of groundwater contamination on nearly 9 acres on Quiogue owned by Quogue Deputy Mayor Randy Cardo, which he plans to eventually sell to a developer interested in building a 10-home subdivision, will require that the houses have public water. Earlier this month, the Southampton Town Planning Board authorized town planner Matthew Briones, who is working on the subdivision application, to hire a consultant to further analyze data on chromium contamination that was discovered about a year ago on the property, which is located between South Country and Old Meeting House roads. A known carcinogen, chromium possesses a high resistance to corrosion and has been used in the manufacture of steel. Mr. Briones said he does not yet know the extent of the groundwater contamination, though he added that plans for the subdivision must now include public water hook-up for all 10 homes.
