Subject: | [CPEO-BIF] McCook Field neighborhood vapor intrusion - Dayton, Ohio |
The 500-home McCook Field neighborhood in Dayton, Ohio is a major vapor
intrusion site, where TCE sampling inside some homes has actually
exceeded the emergency action level. U.S. EPA initiated a emergency
response in 2006, and it added the site to the National Priorities List
in 2009. Continuing activity is threatened by the bankruptcy of
auto-manufacturer Chrysler, the responsible party to take action first,
but EPA recently issued an order to Behr Thermal Systems, the current
plant operator. Site neighbors, organized into BVOCAL, are insisting on
a comprehensive response and periodic sampling to ensure that their
homes are safe.
