DEQ to county: Get antifreeze out of ground By Kate Hessling Huron Daily Tribune (MI) September 16, 2009BAD AXE - Michigan Department of Environmental Quality officials told Huron County commissioners Tuesday the county is liable and responsible for cleaning up the antifreeze contamination that still exists at the Huron County Expo Center. "Get the glycol out of there so it doesn’t continue to spread and affect things outside of that area," said Rhonda Klann, a Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) environmental quality analyst in Bay City, during Tuesday’s meeting of the whole. Klann, along with DEQ Senior Environmental Quality Analyst Robin Oeming, said the first priority is addressing the groundwater contamination, which testing found in some areas is as high as 5 million parts per billion. Because 1 million parts per billion is considered an acute ventilation hazard, Klann said the groundwater contamination has to be dealt with. ...
