State Avenue cleanup at midway point Contamination: Tons of soil being removed from downtown city land JOHN DODGE, The Olympian Tacoma News Tribune (WA) September 30, 2009OLYMPIA - Environmental cleanup of a property owned by the city of Olympia on State Avenue reached the midway point this week. What the city will do with the property when the cleanup is complete is still somewhat up in the air, but it's emerging as a preferred site for a downtown parking garage, city officials said. In the past three weeks, approximately 6,500 tons of contaminated soil have been removed and shipped to a hazardous waste disposal site in McMinnville, Ore., from the property between Franklin and Adams streets next to the Intercity Transit Center. ...
